Q: How do I re-purpose 5 existing articles to the article directories ASAP?

A: That's a great question because many people have existing content sitting around somewhere that they could quickly and easily post online in the article directories.

So here are the steps to get your existing content up quickly.

Step 1 - Focus on just one article directory to start, and I'll suggest EzineArticles. I'll show you my three tiered submission approach to all the article directories in another article.

Step 2 - Get an account at EzineArticles - Simple and easy to do. You get your account and can start submitting articles right away.

Step 3 - Chunk it down - Most content that has been written before may be too long for the article directories. Writing articles for distribution on the internet is a different animal. If you have an article that is 900 words long, you want to chunk it down into at least 2 articles, maybe three. In this way you have 3 "article agents" out there working for you instead of just one.

Step 4 - Submit your article - So many people put off this step because they are waiting for their article to be perfect. DON'T do that! Get your article(s) out there working for you. You can go in and tweak and fine tune them later. This is especially true when you are re-purposing old content.

Step 5 - Do steps 3 and 4 over and over again. Article marketing is a numbers game, and the higher your article volume the higher all your other numbers will be.

When I first started writing articles I really battled to write good quality articles. I remember the first few articles that I wrote it took me days to write one article. You need to be very creative to write a good quality article that will be approved by an established article directory. The more practice that you get the better you will become. Now I can write a good quality article in as little as fifteen minutes. I would like to share with you some tips that will help you to write articles faster.

When I first start writing an article I first decide the audience I am writing the article for. So for example if I am targeting sales techniques for sales people I will think of a topic related to this. For example it could be how to solve a specific problem for example closing or the sales technique that I use that I find to be very effective.

The next step is to write the title. This is the most important step. You need to do keyword research and write your title with specific keywords in them to help your article to be found in search engines when you submit them to article directories. Also it is very important to have an attention grabbing headline as people are more likely to actually read your article.

After I have written the title I like to write the introduction and conclusion next. I then create bullet points. Consequently I expand on these bullet points. Finally I proof read my article and check it for grammar and spelling mistakes.

Once you learn the art of writing articles faster you will have a way to generate high quality free traffic that converts better than other sources of traffic. Imagine what will happen to your business if you wrote twenty articles a day.

Since Google started doing business on the internet linking has become a very important method in generating huge amounts of traffic to your web site. The way Google works is that sites with a large amount of quality one way links will predominantly get very good search engine rankings.

In this article I would like to go through some linking strategies that you can apply to your web site to get a significant amount of traffic.

First I would like to discuss using a silo structure for your web site. This is very important as with the advance of search engines they have started using latent semantic indexing. The way that this works is that you will do your keyword research and have your main group of categories linked to on your web site. Then you will break these categories in sub categories and have these linking to your main categories. So for example if you are writing about weight training for the biceps you can have a separate group of sub categories that will explain each exercise separately.

Now the really important part is the way that you link to your web site. If you are writing articles and submitting them to directories to generate backlinks to your website write at least five. When you submit these to the directories include a link to your web page with your anchor text in your bio. This will give your web pages a massive boost by having links with the targeted keywords pointing to them.

You can also post your content to web 2 websites like Digg for additional backlinks which will result in better rankings.

This may all sound too good to be true, but look at it this way. Nothing is free in this world, right? The cost is time, your time in developing articles. The cost to the site owner is placing a direct-link to your site. Everyone gets something in return, you get traffic, and the site-owner gets good content to place on his or her site.

Writing dozens, hundreds or even thousands of articles and making them available for distribution is one of the best ways to ensure that your website gets surges in traffic over the long-haul. Why? Let me explain:

When you put your articles into distribution (meaning you submit them to ezine publishers and the article sites that ezine publishers visit for fresh content), you increase your chances of your article getting picked up as supplemental content by ezine publishers. They take your article and send it to their email newsletter membership or add it to their website.

Why would you give them your article for free? Heck, you're a paid expert, right?

The answer is because good ezine publishers will leave your article in tact and provide you with an active link back to your website. When they send your article to their list, you can expect an immediate surge in traffic. Most of the time, you won't know who sent your article to their list, but you will see spikes throughout the year if your articles are quality.

There is another technical reason that you may get surges in web traffic from your articles: Every time your article is reprinted on a website with an active link to your website, your articles help you increase link popularity which may elevate your rank with the major search engines. More rank means more natural traffic to your site.

Having worked with thousands of article authors and tens of thousands of articles, I can tell you that there are clearly two types of ezine articles:

Ezine Articles Type I Designed for mass distribution:

How can you setup your article to be picked up by the largest number of potential ezine publishers? Easy: Write 250-500 word articles that are easy to read, bullet points and lists, and only 1 or 2 links in the resource box below the article (and never more than 2). You also don't want to pitch affiliate programs with your links as ezine publishers frown on this and won't pick up your article. Lastly, don't lace your article with heavy HTML code or HTML tables or anything complex. Lowest common denominator (plain text) rules.

Bottom line: The easier you make it for ezine publishers to use your article, the higher your distribution rate. Your goal is increased distribution and exposure.

Ezine Articles Type II Designed for value only from originating site.

How can you limit distribution and only get value from the article directories that you submit your articles to? Easy: Include anchor text links instead of full http:// URL's and bloat it up with HTML garbage and cute HTML code that adds value to the article but would make any ezine publisher cringe because they can't work your heavy article into their ezine template.

As you can guess, I favor "Ezine Articles Type I" authors as they really "get it." Type II article authors are missing out on the viral nature of article distribution.

Tip: If you're going to be a "Type II" article author, at least include one http:// URL in your resource box instead of only anchored text links. This way your article will still generate an active link for ezine publishers who might use your article to their text-based email newsletter audience.

Crank Up The Traffic:

Don't be a 1-trick article author and only post 1 article to 1 site and then call it a day. If you want to crank up the traffic, you've got to crank up the quantity of quality articles you put into distribution. Only the rare article author hits the jackpot with tens or hundreds of thousands of views to their article while the greater majority needs tens, hundreds or even thousands of articles to do the same traffic.

Set a goal to write 4 articles at a time, 250-500 words each and submit them to ezine publishers from your core niche along with submitting them to websites that archive fresh ezine articles daily. It is possible to crank out 100-500 new articles per year for most authors in their spare time. Those who say it's impossible are usually passed up by those of us who know it's possible.

There is no doubt that there is an article writing labor investment here, but the payoffs are in surges in traffic to your website this year many years to come without having to buy the traffic. Consider it an investment in building your websites's foundational traffic-future. :-)

If you want to be good at article marketing, you have to give quality content! And how do you give the best quality content? You have to talk about what you already know! This is the best way to really excel in article marketing. If you don't talk about what you already know about, your going to be left behind.

When you start article marketing, talk about something that your capable of talking about. Don't talk about fishing when you have no idea what kind of bait to use if you want to catch a certain fish! This is crazy! Talk about something that you really understand.

Usually people get into article marketing because of affiliate programs. Well there is a little something that you should know about affiliate programs. ONLY JOIN THE ONES THAT YOU KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT! Don't join an affiliate program about video games if you've never played any. That is why so many beginning article marketers fail. They don't know what they're talking about, and so they give up. Start writing about something that your comfortable writing about. If you don't your going to lose!

You need to be an expert on whatever your writing your article about. You can't do this if you have no idea of what your writing about. How do you expect to write hundreds of articles about something you've never touched,or used? It's insane! Your just going to be wasting your time because no one is going to take you seriously.
